Dr. Arnold A. Heggestad brings decades of experience as an expert witness in issues involving finance, banking practices, valuation, intellectual property, lost profits, and antitrust to the Info Tech team as an Associate Consultant.
He is a distinguished faculty member of the University of Florida as the Holloway Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance. He also is the Founding Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. He is currently responsible for the College of Business entrepreneurship program.
Dr. Heggestad has also put his impressive skill set in practice for public service. He was a founder of Enterprise Florida and has served on the Board of the Capital Partnership from 1993-1999. He was a founder of the $36 million Cypress Private Equity Fund of Enterprise Florida and serves as its Chairman. He was a founder of the Enterprise North Florida Corporation (ENFC) and served as its Chairman until 2002. He was founding Chairman of Invest, ENFC’s $1.2 million venture capital fund until 2000. He is also a board member of the North Florida Venture Capital Network of Jacksonville, Florida, and was a member of the Capital Advisory Group in Jacksonville from 2000-2002.
Dr. Heggestad has served as Chairman of the Florida Commission on Government Accountability to the People, a statewide appointment by the Governor of Florida from 1993-1999. He served from 1992-1998 as a Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Jacksonville Branch. He has also served as Visiting Scholar, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and as Senior Economist for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He was a member of Class XVI of Leadership Florida. He is currently a senior scholar for Tax Watch. His research interests included venture capital, banking, and economic development.
In addition to public service, Dr. Heggestad is involved in various private ventures. He has participated in the formation of a number of successful start-up companies. He is currently Director of Intrepid Capital. At Intrepid Capital, a public company, he is Chairman of the Audit Committee and the Compensation Committee. He also serves on the board of Sunair Electronics, a public company, and serves as the Chairman of its Audit Committee.
Over several decades, Dr. Heggestad has acquired a deep understanding of the effort involved in start-up companies. The sum of these experiences has provided him with a unique perspective on the value of intellectual property, from both the entrepreneur’s view as well as that of the marketplace. His expertise in this area is a result of personal contact and work with entrepreneurs of all types and backgrounds, and his knowledge and understanding of financial markets. This combination of experience and academia allows him to provide expert opinions that are extremely valuable and accurate.
Dr. Heggestad has been at the University of Florida since 1974. He has served in many positions during his tenure at the University including Chairman, Department of Finance, Insurance and Real Estate; Associate Dean, College of Business Administration; Director of the Center for Financial Institutions; Executive Director, University of Florida Research Foundation; Associate Vice President of the University of Florida for Research and Technology; and Director of the Division of Entrepreneurial Programs in the Office of Research. In this position, he was responsible for University-sponsored research, technology transfer, and economic development.
Dr. Heggestad holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Arts and a Doctorate in Economics from Michigan State University.
