Recent use of an innovative management tool is estimated to save $28.5 million annually in reduced hands-on time and improved productivity, according to a recent study at one agency. This group has reduced costs, streamlined construction management operations, and transformed their workflow. New improvements that quantitatively manage and track road, bridge, utilities, and airport construction programs allowed these measurable results.
Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) launched FieldManager in 1999. The software enabled the department to eliminate a time-consuming, manual process for managing construction and dramatically reduce their costs. Today, 3,000 professionals use FieldManager at MDOT facilities, numerous other state & local government agencies, and engineering and construction firms.
"FieldManager has proven to be a prime example of how public/private partnerships can reduce costs to taxpayers, and increase government efficiency," said Michigan Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm.
FieldManager is scalable and can produce results at local agencies, too. More than 60 local agencies, plus their 200+ consulting firms use FieldManager today. It is developed jointly by Info Tech, Inc. and MDOT.

It was ‘standing room only’ at APWA Congress! Info Tech presented a workshop on recruiting younger generations in public works. Here is a short summary of the presentation. It is also available as an on-demand webinar.
Everyone knows that the public works workforce is aging. What people don’t know is how to fill those positions with younger workers. It begins with increasing your understanding of the wants and needs of emerging generations.
For the first time ever, America has five living generations and they are characterized by extremely different attitudes and social norms. This is logical, since these groups were shaped by varied events (i.e. World War II vs. 9/11). Simply learning a few facts about each will help you understand your workforce better, and will provide insight into why some employees respond to messaging that others don’t even seem to hear.
Book a webinar today and get these answers and more. Hear for yourself what everyone was talking about at the APWA Congress 2007!

There are many different terms associated with Internet and electronic bidding. So, what does it all mean? What is the most efficient process out there?
