Appia Now Available: Web-Based Version of Software Solution for Capital Infrastructure Projects Debuts

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – September 10, 2004: Info Tech, Inc., a leading developer for capital infrastructure project software, has just announced the release of Appia. The newest version of the software suite, designed for city, county and other municipal government agencies, is a web-based solution. Appia offers integrated components for cost estimation, bid letting management and construction management.

"The way agencies manage their capital infrastructure projects is vastly changing because of new software options," said Joe Phelan, vice president of Sales and Marketing for Info Tech. "Gone are the days of the pencil and paper. Even spreadsheets and databases are being replaced by more efficient software applications that employ the latest web technology and are custom-designed for the industry."

The Appia suite is built on the technology of three tested and successful applications: Estimator, Expedite and FieldManager. Information from a capital infrastructure project flows seamlessly through Appia as projects move through the contract life cycle. With just a web browser, it’s easy to see the status of all projects in Appia. The “active projects” web screen shows where all projects are within the project lifecycle so anyone in an organization can view project information without user training or software installation.

Appia was developed to meet the specific needs of transportation agencies. It uses the technology of Estimator to provide an accurate, reliable cost estimation with precision, dependability, flexibility and speed. It also uses key functionality of Expedite for electronic bidding to eliminate the tedious data entry and proofing associated with managing bid letting activities. It includes a component for contractors to use to prepare their bids electronically. Information is then passed to client/server FieldManager to focus on the construction phase of the project to make record keeping and contract tracking an easy process. FieldManager is a comprehensive electronic construction management system for managing and tracking construction projects, documenting construction progress, initiating contractor payments and communicating with an agency's central office contract administration system. Data returns to Appia for archiving.

"Appia brings Info Tech's most powerful software modules, already market leaders and in use in state departments of transportation, cities, counties, consulting firms, and contractors across the country, and combines them for a convenient web based solution,” Phelan said. "Agencies can implement this one software package to organize all of their highway construction projects, from estimation to contract management."

Appia offers many benefits to users, including significant cost and time savings due to reduced hands-on time and elimination of re-keying data, more accurate record keeping, paperless data collection, production of instantaneous status reports and pay requests and more access to information on and off the construction site.

Info Tech software is installed in 38 state departments of transportation and several hundred US cities and counties and two foreign countries, performing a wide range of functions from project estimation to contract administration to electronic bidding. Info Tech, based in Gainesville, Fla., provides customer-oriented, highly technical consulting, software development, systems integration and network communications services for transportation agencies, consulting engineers, and contractors.
