GAINESVILLE, Fla. – October 3, 2002: Info Tech, Inc., a leading developer of software for the highway construction industry, has been recognized by CIO magazine for its role in the co-development of the FieldManager software suite.
CIO honored the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the co-developer of FieldManager, with the Enterprise Value Award. The award is designed to recognize information technology and business executive partners who have successfully demonstrated increased business value from their information technology investments. CIO has been conducting the program for 10 years and selected five winners this year from a field of 42 nominees.
MDOT approached Info Tech in 1997 when it wanted to develop a construction management system to replace an aging mainframe application. Info Tech agreed to the task and formed a unique public/private alliance with MDOT so that the two organizations co-own the software. It debuted in 1999.
MDOT estimates that FieldManager saves their organization more than $20 million per year in reduced handson staff time, while construction projects are finished faster and contractors are paid sooner. The application has completely transformed construction project management in the state and has improved communication throughout all levels of the organization.
“FieldManager continues to be a big win for MDOT,” says Douglass Couto, Chief Information Officer in MDOT’s Office of Information Management.
Several other state transportation agencies have since implemented FieldManager. It is currently in use in Alaska, Arkansas, Iowa, Michigan, Oklahoma, Maine and Wisconsin. Additionally, over 200 cities and counties, as well as nearly 300 consulting firms, license the software.
“FieldManager continues to evolve based on customer needs,” said Tom Rothrock, Senior Vice President of Info Tech. “The relationship between MDOT and Info Tech laid the groundwork for an exceptional software program that makes road construction quicker and less expensive.”
