Products and Services from Info Tech, Inc. Key to the Success of ARRA

Gainesville, Fla. – April 23, 2009: Funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) are flowing into the hands of agencies across the U.S., and Info Tech, Inc.’s products and services are a key part of the process.

“With 30 U.S. state transportation agencies using Info Tech’s Bid Express Internet bidding service, plus 42 U.S. state transportation agencies using Info Tech-developed construction management software, it is clear that our products and services are facilitating this unprecedented federal initiative,” said Joe Phelan, Info Tech‘s vice-president of marketing and sales.

In a statement issued on Monday, President Obama indicated that the 2000th project using ARRA funds had just been initiated. The project, identified as work on I-94 in Kalamazoo County, was posted to Info Tech’s Bid Express Internet bidding service for the upcoming bid opening, and will be managed by Info Tech’s FieldManager construction management software, which was co-developed by Info Tech and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). From bid to project completion, Info Tech software will manage the lifecycle of this milestone project and countless others.

“By posting projects to the Bid Express Internet bidding service, agencies such as MDOT can increase competition and get lower prices simply because there is a larger pool of potential bidders,” said Phelan, referring to the more than 5000 contractors subscribing to the service. “Plus, MDOT has already proven, through an external assessment, that managing projects in FieldManager allows them to save $28.5 million per year in taxpayer dollars by improving efficiency.”

Efficiency is a key theme with the new administration. “The Recovery Act is being implemented with speed, transparency and accountability,” said Vice President Biden in the press release dated April 13, 2009.

Internet bidding for highway construction projects was first introduced by Bid Express in 1999. Today, the 30 U.S. state transportation agencies using this service can expedite projects through the bidding process. Internet bidding is a key part of the speed of the ARRA project mobilization. In 2008 alone, more than $103 billion in bids was transacted through Bid Express.

ARRA provides a total of $48.1 billion for transportation infrastructure projects to be administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Of that, $27.5 billion is for highways and bridges; $8.4 billion is for transit. These projects are an ideal fit for Info Tech-developed applications and services.

In addition to Bid Express and FieldManager, Info Tech is also the contractor for the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO) Trns•port software suite. Used by 42 of the 50 U.S. state transportation agencies plus two foreign countries, AASHTO Trns•port is a complete construction management solution.
