Info Tech, Inc. Hosts Employees' Kids for 'Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day'

Gainesville, Fla., April 25, 2008 — Info Tech, Inc., a Gainesville-based statistical consulting and software development company, celebrated national Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 24 with a seven hour block of programs and presentations. Fourteen children participated in the program which is part of a national event.

Kids started the day by job shadowing with their parents. The formal presentations began with an overview of the company history, products and services. Information sessions on Info Tech’s marketing, software development, accounting and human resources teams followed, along with a complete office tour and lunch on the lawn.

Children got to be hands-on during the department workshops. During one presentation, the kids used Info Tech’s construction management software to fix an imaginary pothole that opened up outside the building. During another presentation, the kids wrote out pretend checks to pay Info Tech’s bills.

Dr. Jim McClave, Info Tech’s president, ended the program by asking the kids to report on what they learned. He also spoke about the value of having balance in your life and thanked the kids for letting their parents be contributors at Info Tech. Each child received a certificate of completion.

“Work/family is one of Info Tech’s core values,” McClave said. “This program is just one way we show that commitment by giving children a better understanding of what it means when their parents are at work. It also opens up the kids to begin thinking about their future careers.”

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is a national program. Per the program’s web site, “it is more than just a chance to job shadow mom or dad. Exposing girls and boys to what a parent or mentor in their lives does during the work day is important, but showing them the value of their education, helping them discover the power and possibilities associated with a balanced work and family life, providing them an opportunity to share how they envision the future and begin steps toward their end goals in a hands-on and interactive environment is key to their achieving success.” More information about the program is available at www.daughtersandsonstowork.org.

Info Tech hosted the program in 2003 with positive evaluation results. This second effort built on the success and feedback from that program.
